Water Treatment Operator Handbook
The Water Treatment Operator (Training) Handbook is AWWA’s best selling operational manual for water operators. It was first written by Nick in 2002-2003, and has undergone two revisions by him over the years. The next revision has been completed by Nick and AWWA will have it printed up by this fall.
Water Treatment & Basic Science
Over the years, AWWA has trusteed Nick to revise several of their staple operator training products, such as Basic Science and Applications, and Water Treatment, which are part of the AWWA WSO arsenal for operators.
Filter Operations, WTP Residuals, and Pretreatment
These three handbooks were written by Nick and designed so that each operator can carry one in their shirt pocket as they make rounds. Filled with basic information about each topic, they make a good study guide for certification exams also.
“The Lime Book”
This is the all time favorite for operators called “The Lime Book” which is a must-read for all precipitative softening plant operators.
Filled with softening calculations and useful operational tips, this book, was first written by the venerable Ohio Chemist Charles P Hoover, who wrote the first 5 editions. Later edited 5 more times by Merrill Rhiel, a student of Hoover’s, it would undergo one more editing makeover by Nick in 1995. Still relevant today, the book features a collaboration with Dr. Timothy Wolfe who contributed heavily to chapter 10 of the book, bringing new insights to the way operators calculate the lime requirements at their plant.
Stories From The Road
This is a story book of Nick’s travels to water treatment plants across the Country to help operators with their treatment issues. Called “Stories from the Road:” this book offers a story from ten different water plants with unique issues, and shows how the staff had to fight the odds to overcome these issues. Included are regulatory references and work problems.
